« 3b - Do or Die »

Avalon sat in her car.  She pulled out Greg1's business card from her wallet.  She realized that today was do or die. She had allowed at least three days to pass before she had now decided to call him.  The party was quickly approaching.  It was Saturday night and she didn't have a back up plan if he said no.

As she started to dial his number on her Blackberry she felt a rush of heat through her entire body.  Her hands began to sweat and a little sweat started to form on the top of her lip. The phone began to ring....1 time...2 times...3 times...4 times....she went to press the off button and then she heard a voice.

"Hello." he said.

Avalon paused.  It was like she couldn't speak. She felt like she something wedge in the middle of her throat and it was blocking her voice from speaking.

"Hellllloooo...." he said again.

Dammit she thought.  This is do or die.

"Hi. May I speak to Greg?" she asked.

"This is Greg." he said.

Avalon's heart began to beat faster and faster.  It was almost as if it was going to leap from her chest and try to beat away from her. She had to catch herself.  Her mind was racing.

"Oh hi....this is Avalon." she said as she beat her fist on the steering wheel.

"Who?" he said.

Avalon peered out the window. Oh great she thought...he doesn't even remember me.

"Avalon....from the message board....the girl you helped when I fell."

"Oh, I remember.  How are you? All healed up?" he asked.

"Good as new." Avalon gave him a slight giggle.

"Well, I'm glad you're feeling better."

"I am."

"I'm really glad you decided to call, I wasn't sure you were interested or not its taken you such a long time to call." he said.

Avalon made weird facial expressions in the car visor mirror.  What could he have been thinking about. Of course she was interested!

"How could you have not known...I did go to the club to meet you." she said.

"I wasn't sure.  Sometimes women give out mixed signals." he said.

Avalon paused for a moment.  Now is the time she decided.

"Well, the reason for my call is...I have a really small...tiny...weeny...little favor to ask of you."

"If it's that's small, will I even know I've done it?" he joked.

Avalon giggled. She knew it was corny, but what at that moment corny was the going rate for what she needed him for.

"My mother is having a lavish affair on Saturday night and I need an escort...."

Before Avalon could finish he cut her off.

"I did have plans for Saturday night...."

"Oh, I understand. Thanks anyway."

"You cut me off, but my plans got cancelled...so yeah, I can go with you...since it's such a small favor."

Avalon gleamed a special glow.  She couldn't believe he said yes!

"Look just email me all the particulars...I have to go now." he said...and before Avalon could say good bye he was gone.

Avalon peered out the window...this is just the beginning she thought.

The beginning of what?  She was soon to find out.

To be continued.....
